As a representative of the faculty of philosophy, Immanuel Kant is still capable of challenging the faculty of theology to a »dispute between faculties«. Protestant theology and Kant the philosopher agree that this is imperative. However no such agreement has been reached in regard to its precise purpose, an agreement which would make it unnecessary for the faculties to continue arguing about the sense and the task of a dispute. In the interest of a concept for such a dispute, the author discusses the question of being a human being at the intersection of knowledge, faith, doing and hoping in a way which is as close to Kant's philosophy as possible. He begins by dealing with this in such a manner that Kant's own thoughts are presented. He then discusses in detail the reasons for and the subjects of the dispute between the philosophical and the theological faculties, looking at this question from the standpoint of the philosophical as well as the theological faculty. In the third part of the article, the author gives an explicit description of the debate with Kant, a debate which had previously been implied, so that the dispute between the faculties continues.
