The essay's theme is the relationship between image and education (Bildung) in Kierkegaard. A reading of »Practice in Christianity« reveals Kierkegaard's understanding of the specifically Christian use of the image. The book's third part can be read as a media theoretical discussion of the different stances toward the image of the crucified Christ. At the same time, the theme of education proves to be prominent in the book. The Christimage as an autonomous work is the focus of a Christian education which aims at 'imagining' the student 'into' discipleship.
