Karl Heussi is well known for his »Kompendium der Kirchengeschichte.« But how did he experience the Nazi regime, and what did this experience mean for his thoughts on church history? In comparing Heussi's lecture in 1933 on the 450th birthday of Martin Luther with his theoretical reflections upon writing history, the author describes Heussi's expectations as well as his fears concerning the Nazi regime.
