Beschreibung
Ever since its rediscovery, the Babylonian Epic of Creation (Enūma eliš) has intrigued modern scholars, not least because of its parallels with the Primeval History in Genesis 1–11. Ancient audiences were fascinated by the epic as well. During the 1st millennium B.C.E., the epic played a central role in the ancient Near East, in education, politics, and religion. This article explores the Babylonian and Assyrian discourses related to Enūma eliš by providing, for the first time, full editions of an important commentary on the epic and a learned treatise that associates mythological motifs from it with the Elamite calendar.
