Summary
Recent years have seen extensive excavations across Jerusalem and improved excavation methods that brought to light hundreds of seals, sealings, and seal-impression from Late Iron Age Judah. The sharp increase in the number and variety of artifacts allow a reassessment of four issues related to the function of seals and their imagery: Assyrian influence on the Judahite elite as seen through the appropriation of the rosette icon and the lunar imagery, the aniconic trend, and the continuity of iconic seals in post-destruction Judah and its implications.
