Summary
This article gives an overview of several positions in the history of research on Deuteronomy that advocate an origin of the book in northern Israel. In particular, it recapitulates and discusses proposals by Burney (1918), Welch (1924), Alt (1953), Clements (1965), Nicholson (1967/2014), McCurley (1974), Rofé (1971), Weinfeld (1985), Na'aman (2000), Nihan (2007), Schenker (2008), and Schorch (2011).
