Summary
The article reports on the beginnings of today's German ombudsman system for ensuring good scientific practice. The author accompanied the beginnings of the Ombuds Committee of the German Research Foundation from the start and helped to build it up. The article describes her personal experiences, the problem areas and the challenges that active safeguarding of good scientific practice still has to face today.
