The Benediction of things has two far-reaching preliminary decisions as a prerequisite, which need to be reviewed in view of the new attention that has been given to »material culture«. This is done in the present essay on the one hand by Luther's comments on the practice of benediction of his time, and on the other hand by the implicit ontological statements of the currently valid initiation agendas of the VELKD, leading to an experimental clarification of what happens ontologically during an initiation act.
