Summary
The manifold description of God and his mighty deeds in Job 26 does not form a coherent narrative. The textual evidence suggests that the chapter was revised several times and additions later made to Job's original answer to his friend Bildad. This can even be seen in the Masoretic and Greek manuscripts, which differ in length. The original speech (v. 1 – 4) was probably enhanced little by little with the motifs of theomachy (v. 12f.14b), theophany (v. 5f.11), creation (v. 7 – 10) and the word of God (v. 14a).
