Summary
The study focuses on the wide-ranging discourse on actio, i. e., sermon performance, in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It shows that not only the preparation of the sermon, but also its performance was theologically reflected in detail. The homiletic theory of actio deals with both the vocal and physical expression as well as the spiritual dimension of the sermon's delivery, which was orientated towards the dogmatic, anthropological and philosophical discourses of its time.
