Summary
In the current discussion about the reform of the institutions of higher education, there are particular legal requirements which have to be taken into consideration by divinity faculties at state universities. Even if a divinity faculty is not protected by a contract between the church and the state, freedom of religion and academic research will still be an obstacle to its merger with other faculties. A course of studies which is classified according to the Bachelor/Master model cannot be introduced without the agreement of the church concerned. The churches will have to be able to take part in the accreditation process of theological courses of studies.
