The noun eirēnopoiós (εἰρηνοποιός) is found in the New Testament only in Matt. 5:9. The aim of this lexical study is to examine the use of this word in the Greek literature of the preceding period. As will be shown, a fundamental difference in meaning emerges depending on whether the word refers to God or to men.
