Summary
This article examines the crisis of COVID-19 and its effects mainly on Eastern Orthodox Christian Churches. The Coronavirus pandemic posed a series of unprecedented challenges to many of the Orthodox Churches and highlighted many issues that have to be addressed. Some of these issues that are examined in the current article are the pending encounter of Eastern Orthodoxy with modernity, its relationship with science, and the overall reaction of the Eastern Orthodox Churches to the restrictive measures due to the COVID-19 crisis. The articles notes that these challenges can be transformed into an opportunity for the Eastern Orthodox Church in order to revive its theology and its relationship with the contemporary world.
