Summary
With technological advances, humans now communicate with machines as chat partners. This study reviews recent findings on the health implications of potential excessive use of AI chatbots. Based on the real human-machine conversations, we show what information people sought during the COVID-19 pandemic and identify the risks of relying on chatbots for medical advice. In particular, we found conversational chatbots such as ChatGPT can exacerbate the problem of disseminating misinformation and influencing people's opinions. We discuss guidelines for addressing the potential risks of excessive use of AI chatbots and the importance of establishing ethical frameworks to govern this new technology.
