Summary
Freedom of religion is not a prerequisite for religion – but it is for freedom. Freedom cannot suppress religion, but religion can suppress freedom. Government power and spiritual authority must remain completely separate, since it is only an unforced faith which is real faith, and even a liberal constitutional state cannot function without coercive measures. The only really secular state is one which does not 'abolish' God, one which does not restrict or give preference to religions. In comparison, laicism is at most the second best solution.
