Summary
Various speakers and participants at a conference in 2019 took a stand here: Ingolf Dalferth argued that theology has an exceptional position - outside of the »sciences« - stating that it alone deals with the Creator, whereas the sciences deal with the creatures. Benedikt Göcke, on the other hand, argues that theology is at the forefront of the sciences: it is regina scientiae. Holm Tetens points to the explanatory success of the methodologically »atheistic« sciences (especially the natural sciences), but attributes this to the fact that God has arranged the world in suchaway that the rational human subject can explain a great deal in the world without having to immediately resort to God. The other contributions (Harald Seubert, Daniel von Wachter, Christoph Mocker, Dominikus Kraschl, Fabian Grassl) deal primarily with the relationship between theology and philosophy. The background to the discussion is Sven Grosse's work 'Theologie und Wissenschaftstheorie', published in 2019, which Seubert also discusses explicitly.
