Summary
Using a new approach, the author attempts to establish more precisely the time and the content of Luther's reformational discovery. As a basis for this, he examines the ways in which Luther was influenced by Staupitz, Erasmus and Paul von Burgos. He shows that »repentance« was eventually seen as an experience founded on grace. This is what gave the first Thesis against Indulgences its reformational meaning.
