Summary
The Age of Enlightenment effected an epochal paradigmatic shift in the judgement of Luther. This radical change is exemplified in short case studies of the literature, historiography and theology of that time. It is thereby shown that the German Enlightenment overcame the positional fixation on Luther's time-bound theology by entering into a structural discipleship. In such a way, and in connection with Luther's mind and character, the Enlightenment was able to perceive its own historical responsibility within critical autonomy.
