Summary
International legal scholarship should engage in an interdisciplinary exchange with Youth Studies to study youth and young people in international law. International legal scholarship already interacts with a wide range of disciplines, which is why the proposed interaction is not a novel invention, but part of a general practice in international legal scholarship. Youth Studies form a heterogenous, multi- and interdisciplinary field of research, which is unified through its shared curiosity for youth and young people as objects of research. Although Youth Studies appear to have little interest in international law, they harbour great potential for international law. Youth Studies can be used to justify why youth in international law should be studied at all. In addition, Youth Studies can support existing international legal research in an intersectional manner, as is illustrated by a brief study on the discourse on young women as agents of change. The practical necessity of theorising youth in international law with the aid of Youth Studies is exemplified with the »UN Pact of the Future«. The proposed synergy between international law and Youth Studies enables a fresh, critical approach, which may be called Young Approaches to International Law.
