Summary
This essay explores the meaning of the term »religiously tone-deaf« (»religiös unmusikalisch«) in Max Weber and Jürgen Habermas. The author considers the closeness of music and Christianity in the works of Luther and Schleiermacher. The shift in the relationship between reason and religion, as suggested by the term »religiously tone-deaf,« is incorporated by the author, based on the hermeneutic challenge which the shift presents.
