Summary
The Article deals (I) with some essential changes in interpretation having taken place since the mythical character of the biblical creation narratives has been recognized. The theological consequences (II) emerge above all from their conceptual correspondence with ancient Oriental creation myths. Mythical judgements are reliable in a metaphorical sense only which is true also in regard to dogmatic sentences. The article concludes (III) by two questions: (1.) Which are the human biological preconditions of religious conceptions in understanding our world? (2.) Is a »theory of everything« as a basic of the »unity of knowledge » (E.O. Wilson) to be recommended?
