Verlust des Politischen qua Epistemisierung?

The article questions the assumption that democracy is in danger of turning into an epistemocracy through epistemization. It argues that though the latter challenges democracy it is crucial for its functioning at the same time. History and an analysis of contemporary political disputes show that the significance of knowledge is a question which is open to different political decisions. The article looks at the discourse on technocracy to underline the frictions between sovereign decision-making, its alignment with knowledge and shows that the situation is more complex than a simple escalation of conflicting interests and values.
