Summary
When the study document »Communio Sanctorum« of the national bilateral Roman Catholic-Lutheran Commission was published in September 2000, the official responses of Protestant churches, church councils and theological faculties mirrored the ongoing debate with German Protestantism on the necessity and the goal of seeking doctrinal consensus to overcome the condemnations of the 16th century. This article analyzes the debate about the crucial issues in the study document and investigates how ecumenical consensus would be possible based upon the gospel.
