Summary
Whereas the Egyptian lawmaker has otherwise drawn heavily on the French Code civil, Egyptian private international law is a genuine 'Egyptian' codification which serves as a model in Arab countries such as Kuwait, the U.A.E., Jordan, Syria, Libya, Irak, Jemen or Sudan.
Holger Jung gives a detailed account of the connecting factors and general rules of the Egyptian law of international contracts. He shows the influence of Islamic law in private international law and tendencies to overcome the codified rules of international contracts, replacing them by 'modern' rules which Egyptian scholars deem more fit to meet the present-day needs of a globalised economy.
