Summary
This collection of essays explores the relevance and normative interpretation of the »autonomy of law« in dictatorship and democracy in the twentieth century. Historical and jurisprudential perspectives are combined in an analysis of the endangerment and shift in meaning of a central liberal idea of the nineteenth century.
