Summary
This volume contains essays on basic issues of the methodology of the social sciences and on the history of socialist thought. Friedrich A. von Hayek wrote these essays in the 1940s as part of a larger project addressing the »history of the abuse and decline of reason in modern times«. The critique of scientism and constructivism that is at the core of these essays concerns a central theme in Hayek's work, namely the Pretence of Knowledge. A first book edition appeared in 1952 under the title The Counter-Revolution of Science - Studies in the Abuse of Reason. For this new edition of the German version, which is out of print, the original translation by Helene von Hayek has been slightly revised.
