Summary
Human "swarms”, ie loosely connected and non-hierarchical groups, spontaneously develop on online platforms and, after a short while, dissolve again. Despite their short-lived nature, they are at the heart of important regulatory challenges: shitstorms, swarm trading and "wildcat strikes” all result from the emergent collectivity embodied in a "swarm”. The present volume addresses these and other challenges by focusing on the phenomenon of emergent collectivity.
