In antiquity, prophecy functioned as a means of (political) decision-making, which is why the trustworthiness of prophetic words had to be verified. Ruth Ebach examines the criteria in the Old Testament used in dealing with prophetic words as they are to be found in literary prophecy and in legal texts and shows that the interpretation of experienced and remembered history is influenced by prophetic words, and how this is done.
