Of all the German and European modernizations of the law of obligations during the past years and at present, the law of prescription (or of limitation) has probably undergone the fastest changes. The present trend favors a knowledge-based criterion for the beginning of the limitation period and a uniform length of this period. Has this approach proven to be successful or are new reforms necessary, which principles should be followed in European private law? The authors in this volume examine the development in many European countries as well as in PECL and DCFR and analyze core issues in the German law of prescription in its European context.
